CHARACTER INFORMATION

Name: Dave Strider (Davesprite)
Age: 13, though closer to 15 with time travel shenanigans

Personality:

Dave is pretty confident. He knows how to do things since he's done it all already, and knows he can actually pull off the stunts he needs to. He has a very good sense for what he can and can't do-- that's to say he knows his limits. He has a good sense of self-preservation and it's served him well thus far.

That's something huge about Dave. He is fucking terrified of death. He is scared of dying like nothing else, and it's only through hard effort and a pinch of good luck that he's managed to live this long. Time travel is incredibly dangerous, and Dave feels that every step of the way: he felt a pressing fear every time he turned back the clocks, and so he worked extra hard to make sure none of his future or past selves would have to face something so scary.

You'd never guess that about him, in all honesty.

Dave appears to be a totally different kid than he is deep inside. He acts like he doesn't give a shit about much. Dave covers a lot of things up. His fears and his worries, his hopes and his dreams. They are all totally covered up. He takes on the guise of someone extremely stoic, someone who fits the ideal 'coolness' his Bro hammered into him from a young age. 'Cool people don't give a shit about anything'-- that's what he honestly believes, and he tries to act that way. In certain areas it can be obvious that Dave isn't as 'cool' as he likes to pretend he is.

He writes semi-sentimental letters to his friends on their birthdays, gives thoughtful gifts and generally loves the shit out of his friends and family. He even likes animals and shows genuine distress when he accidentally hurts one. He isn't an utter asshole, even though he tries to be one. Though that said, he is definitely a prick at times! He snoops in his friend's diary, mocks a girl for being blind and outright berates his best friend for liking certain movies. So he's got an asshole exterior-- he says a lot of nasty things and is generally unpleasant-- but he really, truly cares deep down and that makes all the difference. He'd apologize if he ever really hurt someone. He's awkward in that he doesn't really know how to show affection.

Dave loves irony. He genuinely finds it fucking hilarious. He's easily influenced by his friends and will consider things he never thought of if it's pointed out to him by them.

Another main trait of Dave is that in the end, through his ironic gestures and mean comments and hiding shit from himself, he can be very honest. If he thinks an idea is a fucking stupid one he'll tell you and won't mince words about it either. He is brutal and blunt and direct. He doesn't beat around the bush if he's decided to tell you something. What he does beat around the bush with is coming to terms with things: he does not process sadness well at all, considering feeling sad is not a very cool thing to do, and lives in a world deeply soaked in denial.

John's death in his doomed timeline is a subject of great tenderness for him. It's very possible that the first time he ever saw John in person was after he died. He's tried to approach the subject of dealing with his death in a great number of ways, and in the end he didn't figure out anything at all. He just denies it as he did when he first found out, refuses to accept it. And so he turns back time. He is determined and he is motivated.

Dave is loyal to the people he cares about, and would do anything besides outright die for them. Because while he's very loyal he is even more terrified.

It's very possible to get under Dave's skin, and one way to do that is to brush off all the shit he's been through for his friends. He turned back time itself and lived at least a year's worth of repetition in order to try and save John and Jade and to win Sburb. He's been through a hell of a lot, including their repeated death, and canonly he is told he isn't "the real Dave". That causes him to lose it. He loathes being called anything other than Dave though he won't always or ever even consider to vocalize it.

It's through the extended effort he has put in nonstop and also the fact that he is disregarded and forgotten about once his plan succeeded that has resulted in Dave becoming very, very world-weary. He isn't resentful, but he's very sad. He does not stop with his jokes or general attitude of a cool kid, but this Dave is more honest with himself than the other Dave Striders wandering around his world. He's still neck-deep in denial about certain things. But he can accept that the friends he turned back time to save are not 'his' version of them; that those people no longer exist; and that he is a doomed Dave, someone who is going to die sooner rather than later.

Overall, Dave is just another stunted 13 year old kid who needs a lot of hugs and even more therapy.
